Before the AE86 Corollas became famous and popular, they were in animes (Japanese animation) and video gaming series. Japan’s very own Toyota Corolla AE86 has seen this fame. The hatchback/coupe was introduced by Toyota in 1983 as part of the fifth generation Toyota Corolla lineup. The AE86 has gone on to doing greater things such as inspiring the Toyota 86, a series of sport coupes that include the Scion FR-S, Toyota 86 and the Subaru BRZ, in which we are quite familiar with.
It has been claimed that the popular early 90’s Japanese comics (manga), Initial D, is the reason for the popularity of the Toyota Corolla AE86 and its high resale value. Initial D takes place in Gunma, Japan where the main character, Takumi “Tak” Fujiwara is a tofu delivery boy learning how to drive touge through the winding turns in Mt. Akina. Other characters in this comic are found to drive different variations of this Toyota Corolla such as AE85 Levin, supercharged AE86 Corolla Levin, and a Notchback coupe verison of the AE86 Trueno. This story is based on underground street racing known as touge racing, where drifting is the key to maintaining speed to win.
Here at HIDextra we have no Takumi, but we have Hau. Hau is an HIDextra customer who owns an 86 Toyota Corolla. Hau is no tofu delivery boy, but he is a car enthusiast and has done some impressive modifications to his vehicle. Modifications include stance full coil over suspensions, full polyotane bushing all around and SSR formula mesh wheel. And all car enthusiasts knows that with all great upgrades, a vehicle will always need to be finished off with some HIDs. Hau has installed HIDextra’s Volt Canbus 9004 Hi/Lo HID Kit.
A Hi/Lo kit coverts the low beam to HID while high beam stays as halogen. He chose the 6000k to give his vehicle the brightest white light output possible and with only a hint of blue. The Volt Canbus is our top of line HID ballast with the most advance built in component that will eliminate any issue a vehicle’s computer system have with aftermarket HID. This ballast has the built in cancellers and will also help with flickering issues that some vehicles may experience. And the Canbus ballast also produces the light output (lumens) almost equivalent to 55w while only using 35w and the quality of the ballast is equivalent to OEM ballast. A very high quality HID Kit recommend for all year, make, and model vehicle.
And of course we had to ask Hau if the installation was easy and how awesome it was. Take a look at his status pictures and video response below!
